My first blog!

Hi all, as the title states, this is my first blog (yipee!) and hopefully it won’t be my last!

I’ve felt like I should have a blog now, after all, I have a twitter and a youtube, so why not hit the trio like many other cyclists. Such as David Brennan, now David (you may know him by a few different names, I’ll let you choose which one) has been an influence in what I do, and I’m going to be all mushy here, (if you’re reading this Dave I’m sorry!) but also a bit of a role model and I think I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing now if I hadn’t watched his videos on YouTube, started with the camera myself and met him at the 2014 POP. So cheers David! 🙂

So, back to the point in my first blog, besides rambling. I’m starting to campaign for safer roads through a new group, Gobike and continuing with the one that started this all off back during the summer, (a lovely little group that I’m proud to be a member of) Space For Cycling Glasgow, where I’ve met some fantastic, enthusiastic people with the same thoughts and principles as me.

Thats sort of put things into perspective for me. I used to cycle around and shout at cyclists about helmets and lights and this that and the next thing, I used to not have a care in the world- if I could cycle on the roads without a problem,  why do so many people choose not to. Now this was a few years back and I’d like to think I’m more mature and I’ve learned from that. What I’ve learned from that is that yes, I can cycle these roads without a second thought and plod along regardless of the giant truck behind me or the motorbikes whizzing past, these roads aren’t suitable for the next generation,  the generation that needs the security of safe roads, they need the cleaner air and the healthier life style. The only way to get both of these things together (the way I see anyway) is cycling infrastructure. And not just some white paint splashed on the road in the gutter, im talking about proper, segregated, safe and convenient infrastructure that anyone can use.

So, this blog, along with my twitter will be used to highlight everything I want and what I’m campaigning for; safer roads for the next generation. Because,  in the end, is it that much to ask for?

All in all, besides the rambling and the mushy parts, (sorry Dave!) I hope my first blog has served its purpose and isn’t just a pile of rubbish fueled by a bottle of cider and lack of sleep (the details of which will be in my next blog-the cider that is)

Until then

Cyclists,  stay awesome
